Quantar Names New High Priest

UUNN Newswire

(Petrios, Quanus) Rabb Nost’avor was named a new member of the Quantar High Priesthood (The Akhot’ah) yesterday to replace the retiring Qashish Yoak’im.  Nost’avor was a surprise candidate, having been critical of the Fa’hil Memta in the past.  The new “Qashish” Nost’avor will be assigned as the Seneschal for the Sanctuary of the Angels (Makhna Omala’ak) — which lies outside Petrios near the ancient ruins of Tarsus.  Nost’avor will be taking up residence there in the next few days.

Nost’avor, whose given name is Rys Nostavor (Rabb is a priestly title),  previously held the position of Seneschal at the Temple of Roh in Khalar Fa’el — another one of the Quantar High Holy sites.

The (Unregulated) Update

unregulated-updateVol. II, No. 4 – by Ares Kiden

Well there has not been a ton of news since the last Update, but wanted to keep things rolling anyway.

Election Adventures

Not going to re-hash everything that has been published, but this has been a little raucous.  I’m not sure I’ve ever seen anything but after-the-fact news about Hyperial elections, but this one has kept the popcorn popping.  Guy appears out of nowhere to become a candidate and starts broadcasting dirty laundry.  Ok, not really dirty — just slightly sweaty maybe.  Then an alleged supporter gets arrested for hauling contraband . . . but maybe he’s not really a supporter.  And now the dark-horse candidate has clammed-up with the election a few days away.  But we did learn what a wonderful place Barnard is.

Smuggling Upsurge

So what’s going on with Prosthetics?  We had not heard a word about them for years and now we’ve seen them in the news for the second time, and it’s pretty clear that TRI-SEC is on the lookout for more.  I assume they’re still coming from Hyperial, so stemming the tide should be fairly easy.  But why is there even a market for them?  Have to look into this some more, I think.

. . . like I said, not a lot of news.

TRI-SEC Releases Statement on Prosthetics Smuggler

UUNN Newswire

(Solrain Core) TRI-SEC today released a statement from Commandant Solder Ronin on the recent apprehension of a Prosthetics smuggler:

On 118.3.23, a TRI Security officer on regular patrol stopped an scanned a pilot in Zealot’s Refuge.  The pilot, Garrod Kelton, was found to be carrying 30 units of Prosthetics.  He was immediately detained and his ship impounded.

During questioning, Mr. Kelton indicated that he had been contracted anonymously to move the Prosthetics from Klatsches Hold to Lothars Landing in exchange for for 11 units of platinum (about 500,000 credits).  He claims to have picked up the cargo from a storage container on Klatches Hold and did not know who would be receiving the contraband at Lothars.  He did indicated that when initially contracted, he was told that the significant proceeds of the transaction would be used to help fund the Rismore campaign in Hyperial, but we have been unable to ascertain any concrete ties to Mr. Rismore or anyone else in his campaign organization.

Mr. Kelton is a citizen of Solrain and is being turned over to the STCC for appropriate prosecution.  If we receive any other pertinent details that can be released under Solrain law, we will make them public.

We will continue out vigilant patrols in an attempt to disrupt all Prosthetics trade and request the cooperation of all law-abiding pilots.

Prosthetics Smuggler Tied to Rismore Campaign

UUNN Newswire

(UUNN HQ)  A pilot apprehended and detained today by TRI-SEC for having a number of Prosthetics in cargo, is rumored to have ties to Berl Rismore, a candidate in next week’s election for Hyperial’s Mayor of Barnard.  We have been unable to get formal statements from either TRI-SEC or the Rismore Campaign.

TRI-SEC has increased its “stop-and-scan” patrols recently due to an upsurge in Prosthetics trafficking.

Hyperial President Releases Statement

UUNN Newswire

(Barnard, Hypsos) The office of President Drago Maximilian released a Presidential Statement today regarding recent campaign claims made by Berl Rismore.

Since Mr. Rismore has taken it upon himself to campaign to the galaxy rather than focusing on the electors in The Directorate, I feel the need to set the record straight.  Perhaps a century or so ago the position of Mayor of Barnard was actually about running a city, but since that time the duties — if not the title — have evolved significantly.  The Mayor of Barnard is one of my very closest advisers, especially as it relates to trade and relations with the other entities and factions.  So it is not very “odd” that other factions or corporations might take an interest in who occupies that office.  It is not some dark, dirty secret.  I guess time will tell whether the electors and the financial backers feel that Mr. Rismore is up to a job of that magnitude.  I do not.

Early Polls Show Interest Growing for Rismore

UUNN Newswire

(UUNN HQ) An anonymous poll conducted by UUNN show Berl Rismore, the unexpected challenger in the race for Mayor of Barnard, could garner at least 28% of the votes from his colleagues in The Directorate.  The position of Mayor of Barnard, like all other major offices in Hyperial, is elected exclusively by the 400-members of The Directorate.Berl

When Rismore initially announced his candidacy, the general opinion was that he would get a single-digit percentage of the vote at best.  The incumbent Mayor, Dr. Elin Araad, has yet to do any public campaigning for her re-election, and was probably not expecting the need to do so.

Berl Rismore, the son of long-time Directorate member Eldrid Rismore, has run a very non-traditional campaign, taking his message beyond The Directorate and even beyond the Hyperial public — into very open, very public forums.

Quantar Celebrates “The New Day”

by Yaz Shanndar

(Quantar Core) All over Quantar, “The Faithful” are celebrating Nowruz — The New Day.  “It’s a very ancient holiday,” said A’Quina Meniokee, Vazir for the Fahil Mem’ta.  “According to legend, our people once celebrated this day as the beginning of the new year — but that would even pre-date the  Hamalzan calendar.  Now it is a day to enjoy nature . . . the Skein . . . all the gifts Hamalzah has given us — and to celebrate those gifts with family and friends when we can.”

Challenger Enters Race for Mayor of Barnard

UUNN Newswire

(Hyperial Station) In a somewhat surprising late development, Berl Rismore, formerly a Senior Project Director at Samsun Universal, has decided to throw his hat into the ring as a candidate for Mayor of Barnard in the upcoming election to be held on 118.4.1.

Rismore recently became a member of The Directorate when he was chosen to assume the seat for his recently-deceased father.  His decision to challenge Dr. Elin Araad, who had been running unopposed, has caused a political stir.  He has launched his campaign using non-traditional media that breaks with Hyperial tradition in keeping all political debate private to Hyperial.

With little experience and almost no political capital, Rismore is not expected to pose much of a challenge to the incumbent.

Missions and More Missions
Well we saw a burst of mission activity in the last few weeks.  First Octavius and Quantar coordinated efforts (whaaaat???) to try to do something about Magnesium supplies.  Quants were, of course, mining and Octs were gathering.  The missions went pretty quickly but ultimately did fairly little to increase supplies.  At the same time, TRI Corporation sponsored a mission to collect Biomass — which is a pretty tricky task requiring pilot coordination to collect any serious amounts. I guess there was not a lot of coordination as there isn’t any biomass around and that mission is still standing at 29% after 23 days.  Lastly there was a mission to bring Medical Supplies to Great Pillars station.  That one initially seemed kind of like busy-work as there seemed to be no apparent need for Med Supplies, but whatever was delivered disappeared, so … Continue reading

Historian Questions Recent Find

by Thane Carios

(Solrain Core)  A DSS that was decrypted on 2.26 included something that appeared to be the date 3674.3.9.  It appears to be using the Sorian Standard calendar — which would make the date 3136 BT.  We asked Professor D. Karr of the University of Solrain at Sol Core (USSC) to give us a statement on the find.DSS decrypted by razorskiss

“It’s pretty impossible to make any judgement on this.  If this is authentic — and if, in fact 3674.3.9 is a date and not some other kind of counter — it would be the oldest piece of history found to date.  Right now, our verified history starts at 2690 BT.  Anything before that is legend.  So this would push that ‘history’ back more than 500 years.  That being said, it would not not be very usable history since this just appears to be a system diagnostic of some sort.  Not sure how that could add to our knowledge.”

When asked about the mention of ‘TRI,’ Professor Karr responded, “Well . . . if ‘TRI’ means The Reconstruction Initiative or TRI Corporation, then 3674.3.9 isn’t a date.  If 3674.3.9 is a date, then ‘TRI’ has some other connotation.  It’s that simple.”
