High-Level Meeting News

At the risk of annoying my colleague (and editors), I think Thane may be having a slow news month.  Meetings between Faction Leaders (Garreth), Bankers (Prescott) and Corporate Execs (Dorator) don’t seem to be a very big deal to me.  If these kinds of people didn’t have meetings, what else would they do with their time?

Do You Have Questions About Great Collapse?

There’s a guy over on this channel who seems to be suggesting there may be some facts about The Great Collapse that have been buried for some reason.  I always accepted that the extended dark age in the aftermath of the event is the reason we have so little understanding.  Any other conspiracy theorists out there?

What’s Going on With Prosthetics?

I don’t understand what is going on with Prosthetics.  They were declared contraband years ago, but there is still a black market for some reason and my sources tell me they are selling for over 4.2 million credits to the right buyers.  Who is buying these and why?

Prosthetics Smuggler Dies Avoiding Capture

UUNN Newswire

A smuggler flying a modified Phaeton fast-transport died today while being pursued by TRI Security  (TRI-SEC) forces.  TRI-SEC had scanned him and found him to be carrying two units of illegal Prosthetics.  The chase continued through Dark Gateway, Primus Point, Arkans Cloud, The Outer Edge and The Outer Rim.

The smuggler’s ship hit a petal while exiting the Outer Rim gate towards The Rim.  For some reason — perhaps because of the ship’s illegal ship modifications — the LifePod(tm) did not separate and the pilot was killed.  The Solrain smuggler used the callsign Orico, though it is believed that this was a stolen transponder.

“Prosthetics activity seems to be on the rise again — especially out of Lothars,” said Solder Ronin, Commandant of TRI-SEC.  “Prices have skyrocketed and these smugglers are willing to take big risks for big profits.  But it won’t be worth it.  We will catch them.”

High-Level Meeting Planned on Sol Core

by Thane Carios

(Solrain Core)  Sources revealed today that a meeting is planned on Solrain Core Station between STCC Premier Demeter Garreth, Elden Prescott III (Chairman Emeritus of Sorian Bancorp) and Malkev Dorator, Founder of Dorator Technologies R&D.  The Premier’s office refused comment when asked about the date and time of the meeting or its purpose.

Conflux Score Lucky Hit?

Inventories were damaged and production was disrupted when Amananth Station was attacked by a Conflux C10-s on 119.1.9.  The damage was caused by a deemed “lucky hit.” Call me skeptical, but I think I would look into station defenses more closely before writing this one off as “lucky” — or maybe the next “lucky hit” will target nukes (i.e. BIG boom) — or take out a big chunk of the remaining, irreplaceable Antiflux inventory.

In this instance it was Flashfires, Guardians and Whistles that took the hit — and a quickly addressed Faction Mission to repair things was completed in just a few days (nice work, folks!). Continue reading

Amananth Suffers Production Damage

by Thane Carios

 * * * UPDATED 119.1.10.00:45 * * *

(Amananth) An apparent lucky hit caused much more significant damage than expected in yesterday’s sentient attack on Amananth Station.  Some suspected that the attack was targeted at the nukes recently stockpiled on Amananth, but those items were not damaged.  What was impacted was production of Flashfires, Guardians and Whistles — along with significant inventories of those same items plus Displacers as well.

Pilot Orka reported that DPDQ communicated the following message:

436f6e66 6c757820 61747461 636b6564 20726570 6f72743a 20666972 65732068 61766520 6265656e 20737570 70726573 7365643b 2064616d 61676520 61737365 73736d65 6e742069 6e207072 6f677265 73732e

This hex string translates as Conflux Attacked Report: Fires have been supressed, damage assessment in progress.

Some officials have expressed concern that black-market hoarding, panic-buying and price inflation could start if production is not restored quickly.

Amananth Attacked During Sentient Incursion

UUNN Newswire

 * * * UPDATED 119.1.10.01:00 * * *

Reports from Amananth’s DPDQ system indicate that some station systems and inventory were damaged during a Sentient nuclear attack on the station today around 16:30. According to pilot Sinver, the initial attack was made by a C-10 “Eel” sentient along with C-0 “Jellyfish” and C-8/9 “Kraken” drones in support.  Subsequent attacks were by a “Kraken” sentient (C-8s or C-9s).

Aman Leap gate was infested during the attack and sentient presence was also reported in The Gyre, The Split and Sea of Shadows.  No other details are available at this time.  Pilots are warned to keep an eye out for additional sentient activity in that area.

TRI Responds to KTRI Reports

UUNN Newswire

TRI Corporation issued the following statement regarding reports of unusual messages being broadcast on KTRI:

We have checked all systems and can find no issues, errors or security breaches.  In order to investigate this further, we would need timely reports of exactly when messages are appearing.  Images of the corrupted messages could also be helpful.  Reports should be made to tri@tri-subspace.net.

The (Unregulated) Update

unregulated-updateVol. III, No. 1 – by Ares Kiden

Five Years

Very little has gone on since the last issue, but I just had to do an Update to talk about the fifth anniversary of The Restoration.

On 113.12.28, Jumpgates were reopened — just about 20 months after the event we know as The Catastrophe, that disrupted gates, fried databases and destroyed a lot of other infrastructure.  Although it was not as deadly or cataclysmic as The Great Collapse, it shook all of the pilots and all of the factions to their core, reminding all just how little control we have over the immense stellar forces that wash across the galaxy and how easily governments, cultures, infrastructure and people can be wiped away.

So now we stand here five years later.  And while some have returned to taking things for granted, I believe that the vast majority of us appreciate every jumpgate, beacon, station and ship because we know how easily it can all just disappear — or at the very least — be rendered unusable.

Happy fifth anniversary of The Restoration to you all.
