The (Unregulated) Update

unregulated-updateVol. II, No. 8 – by Ares Kiden

What is Going On?

There have been many many missions relating to the non-cooling asteroids, but we have heard results from exactly ONE.  Is there some kind of secret agenda happening here?  Or is everyone too embarrassed to admit that after all is said and done, they still have no idea what is causing the “high entropy state” in the asteroids?  There’s been a bit of frustration building in the jump pilot community and I’m pretty sure much of it could be resolved with just a little bit of communication. Miners Days Contest Winners

by Yaz Shanndar

(Quantar Core) Although the asteroid cooling problem seemed to overshadow this year’s holiday, there were a couple of activities.

The first one was an opportunity for pilots to vote for a new Quantar award — the Shahir Assad or “Shining Lion.”  The award is for lifetime achievements in service of Quantar.  Shahir Assad - medal1031As with the Solrain Hall of Fame, the voting ended in a tie between Tezrend and Ambrosius, so a randomized choice was made — and the winner was Tezrend (aka Tesrend)!  Votes were also received for tom-t and the late FS-Falcon.

The other holiday contest was QuanTrivia where there were four entrants getting all five answers correct and winning a Cesium Medal, a CM4 and 1 million credits!  Congratulations to the winners:  Hammer-BS, Gander, ML-Death and Clanlord!

The awarding of medals and prizes should be completed over the next few days. Continue reading

UUNN Newswire

(Quantar Core) This year’s Quantar Miners’ Days holiday includes a QuanTrivia Contest.  There are five question about Quantar culture and history.  Some are easy . . . others are pretty challenging. Those who answer all five questions correctly will receive miners days 118a Cesium Medal and 1 million credits and a CM4; those who answer 1 to 4 questions correctly will receive a Keval’s Thanks medal; and all other participants will receive a Captain’s Commendation.

  2. When Did Mehr’Lim  (aka Quantar Core) Station Open?
  3. What Quantar trading and refining outpost was instrumental in the ending  of the Second GVB Wars?
  4. What Quantar Zealot Group was destroyed in 97AT?
  5. What Quantar holiday is celebrated in the third month each year?

(Answers to all questions can be found using UUNN, TRI-Databank, The Sarath V Memorial Library or the Official Time Line.)

Quantar Kicks-offs Big Mining Holiday — with No Mining Events!

by Yaz Shanndar

(Quantar Core Station)  A’Quina Meniokee, Vazir for the Fahil Mem’ta, opened the annual Miners Days holiday on Quantar Core Station, today.  And while the crowd was in a celebratory mood, the Vazir was a bit more pensive.

“Shalim Children of Hamalzah!  Today we gather here at the site of Mehr Limi’im — our Great Mother.  She sustained us through very dark times and we gather here again in this troubled time where fewer and fewer pilots traverse the Skein, and now our miners find themselves unable to harvest the gifts we have been given.  Strange things are afoot and we look to Hamalzah to light a path for us to follow.

“Let us trust in His guiding hand as we, together, strive to unravel this mystery.”

“Rakham Hamalzaat!”

The traditional reading of the Parable of Karadron was broadcast shortly after the Vazir’s opening speech:

There have been no announcements of any other holiday events at this point.  Last year, all events were held dirtside.

Brotherhood Sponsors Rockhunter Mission

UUNN Newswire

(Quantar Core) The Quantar squad Brotherhood of the Stone is offering a special Miners Days Holiday mission to find new asteroids in any Quantar sectors — with credits awarded for each previously-uncharted non-common asteroid.  The Quantar Tahirs have agreed to double the payouts and to offer a Captain Commendation to each participant, and The Spade of Karadron medal to the pilot with the most qualified finds.

Full details on this squad-sponsored mission can be found on TRI-PLOG.

Quantar Holiday Returns to Its Roots

UUNN Newswire

(Petrios, Quanus) Quantar leaders decided this year to return the ancient Miners’ Days holiday to its roots, which traditionally focused on local, dirtside parades and traditions.

“We just thought it was a time to do something different,” said First Tahir Penjia Neamru.

“For a number of years, we’ve had large, well-publicized events and contests.  And it was a good thing.  But Miners’ Days has very humble roots.  Spontaneous local parades are the true Quani tradition — with miners putting away their tools for the day, and marching through streets singing traditional miners’ reels, and carrying ceremonial shovels, chisels or picks (which are often heirlooms handed down for generations). It’s just a day of good-natured revelry with family, friends and neighbors,” she added.

The First Tahir did point out that a Faction Mission for the holiday was launched, and that Temples in all cities, town and stations will be performing the traditional Blessing of the Shovels and having readings of the Parable of Karadron.

Miners’ Days Wrap-Up

by Yaz Shanndar

(Quantar Core)  Crews are still cleaning up in Quantar Core after the completion, yesterday, of the three-day Miners’ Days Festival.  The festival had a schedule filled with activities and events — and a list of awards that was just as long.

In addition to the previously-published list, there was a late-entrant to the DSS Decryption Contest, with lordzuon successfully decrypting Dataset #2.  He will be receiving the Seeker of Knowledge medal, along with an EB-3.

There was also a total of 36 Captain’s Commendations going to to the many people who participated in the activities and events:  Agnot (1), Ambrosius (1), Bayonette (4), DETSAW (1), Drevent (3), Firefly (3), Hammer-BS (7), Hopwil (3), Jalil (1), lordzuon (2), Maniac (2), Me.1 (2), Occam (1), Rancor (4) and Veloxi (1).

Finally, the Echoes of Hope medal was awarded to Hammer-BS for his efforts in running the “Searching for our History” DSS Artifact Hunt; and to spork for running the “Quantar GreenER” and “Quantar GreenEST” tuning missions on Saturday and Sunday.

“It was an amazing holiday,” said Third Tahir, Dr. Silas Tashawar — host of the festivities.  “Although you always hope for more participation, you can tell from the Captain’s Commendations that we had many people involved in all the events throughout the holiday.”

The only total miss in the holiday schedule was the JPR FLASHCast special that never aired due to technical issues at Jumpgate Pirate Radio.
