About a month ago, Emperor Septus named his nephew as the new Supreme Military Strategist — which was surprising only in that it took so long for him to boot Ares Prime’s Petillius Lucanus out. Then, last week, a sniper took shots at Aqilus’ hunting party, killing a Praetorian identified as “Kasius” — who it turns out was Kasius Faust, the Emperor’s personal guard.
And while it seems unconnected Aqilus, Martius also announced a vague partnership with Hyperial. I have yet to find out what that is all about. Continue reading →
(Danubia, Martius) An assassination attempt yesterday morning on Atticus Aqilus — who is Supreme Military Strategist for Octavius, as well as nephew of Emperor Septus and potential heir to the throne — was unsuccessful.
Aqilus and a few close friends were hunting in the mountains of Umbrii at approximately 07:00 when two shots were fired by an apparent sniper. The first shot grazed Marcus Digitus, a friend of Aqilus; the second killed a Praetorian Guard identified only as Kasius, who had moved to protect Aqilus.
A man-hunt for the assassin has been under way since yesterday, but the rugged terrain and a storm front moving in has hampered the efforts.
(Hyperial Station) Hyperial Special Representative Dr. Viggio Ragne and Cicero Rnenta, Consul for Martius, met today to finalize an agreement. They released the following statement:
Today we take a step which will be long-remembered. Emperor Atticus Septus and President Drago Maximilian have reached out across the Void to form a partnership. Despite our different histories . . . our different traditions . . . our different politics, they have found enough common ground to build an important partnership that, we hope, will bring just a little bit of unity in our badly-fractured corner of space.
There were no details provided about the pact other than the fact that it would include shared research and resources, and that its impact would be felt within days.
(Great Pillars Station) In an unexpected move, Emperor Atticus Septus of Martius today named Atticus Aqilus as the new Supreme Military Strategist for Octavius. Aqilus will replace Petillius Lucanus who has held the post since 107, when he was appointed by Clements IV. Many were surprised when Septus retained Lucanus in 114 when authority over the Ministry of War shifted from Ares Prime to Martius.
Atticus Aqilus is the nephew of Emperor Septus and many believe he will be named Heir to the Empire at some point, since Septus has no children of his own.
Authority over the three primary Octavius Ministries — Culture, Trade and War — rotates every seven years. The next rotation will take place in 121.
(Outpost Station) The festivities are over, most of the celebrants have regained sobriety, the maintenance crews have finished putting Outpost Station back in order and through it all there was little news, issues or fanfare about the latest Feast of the Fallen 117 holiday.
This years highlight was Emperor Cineon’s appearance in Outpost sector to do the Recitation of Heroes. Although it would not seem notable, Cineon’s Recitation was interrupted by a Sentient Conflux attack in 114 and Clements IV was assassinated as he was beginning his recitation in 115. Last year Emperor Septus decided that the better part of valor was discretion, and did his Recitation from the Palace Grounds on Martius. Continue reading →
(Cinatus) Octavius Outpost station will be the center of this year’s Feast of the Fallen holiday, which runs from 117.5.26 through 117.5.28 with Emperor Cineon I presiding over the annual three-day celebration. Cineon last presided over the holiday in 114. Just a year later, the holiday was devastated by the assassination of Clements IV as he began the Recitation of Heroes. Last year’s event, led by Emperor Atticus Septus, was somewhat muted with most of the official festivities dirtside on Martius.
Although this year’s space-based activities will continue to be fairly limited, Cineon has insisted on holding the Recitation of Heroes out in space once again.
Day of Remembering – 117.5.26
At 18:00 UTC Emperor Cineon will lead the Recitation of Heroes, where the name of an Octavius warrior or hero from the past is called out aloud and the hero’s accomplishments and victories are recalled. Cineon has asked the citizens of Octavius to submit their own remembrances for him to read publicly.
Day of Battle – 117.5.27
“The Bleeding Skies” — All Octavius is called upon to tune beacons RED across Octavius — and throughout all space — for the entire day.
Members of the lesser factions are welcome to challenge those actions.
Day of Feasting – 117.5.28
All are urged to enjoy to good company of family and friends to celebrate Heroes past, present, and future.
(Outpost Station) Emperor Cineon today asked for more citizen participation in the official Recitation of Heroes ceremony to be held on 117.5.26. The Recitation of Heroes is that is the highlight of the first day of the Octavius Feast of the Fallen holidays, where the names of former “heroes” of Octavius are called out publicly, sometimes with a brief remembrance.
“Some of these heroes passed to the Halls long ago,” said Governor Zenobia Zavera, who will help host this year’s holiday. “Others are retired, and other are long lost – but we still hope for their return,” she added. Continue reading →
