A Quantar pilot doing a routine mining mission in the vicinity of Hyperial Hook was fired on yesterday by an unknown classification of Hyperial ship, just shortly after allegedly finding a new type of mineral.
The Quantar pilot had left Quantar Core station sometime in the early morning hours, as he apparently does everyday, to get a jump on the competition. He claims to have received a tip from an unknown source that something valuable was located in Hyperial Hook. Looking to make a little bit of extra profit to pay off his new home on Quanus, he set off to Hyperial hook in his Hurricane.
After about an hour and a half in transit, he finally arrived at Hyperial Hook and jumped into the system. He had been to the system before so he had a fairly clear map of where all the valuable asteroids were located. This said, he apparently decided to fly off the beacons for quite a distance to see if he could pickup anything on scanners. After approximately a half an hour of travelling away from the jumpgate to Hyperial, his scanners picked up a strange reading. It was a metal he had never seen before in his nearly ten years of mining. The scanners were reporting energy readings that were completely off the scale, yet it was also extremely dense and light.
He had closed to within to within 10,000 clicks to get a good look at these rocks. He describes the rocks as being “a bright, pulsating orange color, almost like a heart beating in space”. The formation itself was also inconsistent with a random asteroid belt, it was mostly very large asteroids, some measuring at over fifty kilometers in diameter, the asteroids themselves were also in a very dense cluster near each other.
Before the pilot was able to properly record the data, a strange ship that looked like “a sparrow on steroids” came out of nowhere and fired at his ship, taking down his shields nearly instantly. He took evasive action and was coming about to return fire but the pilot of the mysterious ship had stopped firing. A message was given to the pilot by the mystery ship: “This is a highly classified Hyperial research area. You are in violation of local Hyperial law. You will now be removed from the area, any attempts to resist will be met with deadly force.” Before the pilot could respond, a massive EMP shockwave erupted from this strange ship. With his ship’s shields down, it fried nearly every transistor on his ship, including recording devices. The mysterious ship docked with the transport, attached a tow cable and towed the pilot tot the gate to Hyperial. As far as the pilot could tell, it took them very little time to get there. The pilot detached his cable and disappeared from view. This was the last the pilot saw of the mystery ship.
Fortunately for the Quantar pilot, his emergency distress beacon had the necessary protections to survive such a violent EMP burst and function properly. He activated it and was picked up by a passing Solrain and returned to Quantar Core where he filed a complaint against the Hyperial government for their actions.
With all of the pilot’s recording devices destroyed, he can’t say with any certainty where these asteroids were located within Hyperial Hook, nor can he confirm that the mysterious ship was Hyperial in origin since it bore no markings. He apparently had a clear view of the ship on the tow back to the Hyperial gate but he only guess that it was slightly larger then the Phoenix class fighter craft produced by Octavius, but with dual engines and slightly less accentuated wing design. It had an orange and grey coloring design with no clear markings.
A local ship technician examined the damaged armor of the Hurricane and has this to say about it: “It wasn’t no Phoenix that did this kind of damage to a ship. I know the pilot says this mystery pilot just took down his shields, but there is one hell of a lot of damage to his armor here. I removed some of the bullet fragments and they are definitely projectiles from Hitmen. There is also unusual laser scorching in the armor that I’ve never seen before, that’s not a laser made in the five systems that done that.”
When contacted for a comment on the incident, the Hyperial government denied it even occurred. “There are many pirates in these parts nowadays, since Quantar decimated our space program we have virtually no control of our own space and this Quantar is trying to say we constructed a secret ship and attacked him with it? I know it’s popular for Quantar pilots to drink while they’re mining but I think this one needs to lay off the booze.”
Speculations among all parties have been flying since the incident came into the view of the public. Many speculate that this new mineral was part of a Hyperial planet that was destroyed during the collapse, which would explain why the asteroids are so large and closely situated if they were once part of a planet. The Great Collapse was known to be a great force, possibly one of energy and it might have instilled some unique energy properties into this otherwise unremarkable metal. Still, there are others yet that say the metal is the same one used in the construction of Samsun’s much acclaimed but woefully underpowered V.A.P.O.R. laser weapon and that they may have finally refined the laser to the point where it is a deadly weapon, this would account for the unusual laser burns on the Hurricane.
It’s a truly strange incident, conceptual artists are drawing images from the pilot’s description of this mystery ship but none have been released to the public as of yet. One can only wonder what really happened out there. I doubt anyone will really ever know the truth.
